So you want to change the seats out you van for something more comfortable. This is a little page to explain how i did mine. First you need to find seats you like from a car you find comfortable and the seats must have flat runners. Below picture is your average seat runners and the mount direct into the floor (Flat runners) Some seats will be side mounted or one side mounted depending on the floor plan of the car or FWD and RWD may differ. Some may have a flat runner but a side mounted bracket what is also fine as you can cut that off.

Now as your car seats are going in a van your dash is higher so you need a base. What i used was the back seats out the Convoy bus base as they are just bolt on

I also added swivel plates to base bolted to plate lower and seat bolted to plate upper

Add seats. Now when you have your seats and look at the runners if the runner mount holes dont line up with your base then its OK to drill new ones. When you see a runner it will be more obvious how and where. Just watch what size nuts you use to mount them as to tall the upper and lower sections of the runner wont pass as you adjust the seat back/forwards.

Position seat so you are comfortable with the controls or driving and remember to allow for the seat to come forward for shorter drivers. Try and have sliders in the middle position before drilling holes in your floor.

Once happy mark mount holes and drill through floor making sure you miss fuel likes or any cables under the van. When done drop bolts through the floor and from under the van you need to add load bearing plates. Make your own from 3mm steel or buy some on ebay. They are like this and under £2 each.

Under your van just use a plate and weld your own bolt on when under the van or tighten this plate up and either weld to the underside of the floor or pop rivet. That makes taking the seats out and putting them back a lot easier when working alone.

----------------------------------------------------------

As you seen i used swivel plates. Adding them made my seats to high and my legs would his the steering wheel so decided to make my own base as i have a little welder. I measured what i need and ordered up some 3cm box steel and got the iron company to cut it for me. Once arrived i set about welding them up like below.

Once done grind away any excess weld and line up and mark seat hole mounting points and again for the floor.

Bolt on swivel plate making sure bolt heads miss when operating the plate.

Old base legs relegated to the bin

Once in place bolt up to floor

And add seats

Now i got two swivel plates new for £120 what is around half price. Season being they were small and must not be sellers so if you look close i added two cross section steel bars to the base rear and front and bolted seats to these bars. Reason being the seats runners were wider than my base. Worth making sure when you order swivel plates if needed.

What i did was add plywood to the sides and rear to allow for under seat storage what is access from the front. Handy for things like 12v pump, First aid kit, yellow vests and the likes.

And that is about it for my seats and bases. Two seats cost £50 from scrap yard and another £30 for the steel to make bases. Any questions just mail me.
